If your like me your partially deaf, namely loud music (as i'm a DJ) but if you like your headset then get one wiith a good warranty, Skull Candy are great, you break'em in warranty they will replace them no questins, you break'em out of warranty buy a new pair for half price, go check them out in e retail store you'll lke em. simple answer yes, long answer, SPEAK UP I CANT HEAR YOU..

All of which are ordinary use of headphones. Considering modern technology, I think that having it loud will not wear it down too quickly. But if both the headphones and source volume are at max, I'd still expect you're hurting its lifespan. At shortest, maybe they'll last 2 years, but you can easily hope for more (though assuming that volume is the only abuse they suffer from).
