Does Anybody Else Think High School is a Waste of Time?

high time
cashking659 asked:

Honestly, I do not see many important lessons learned in high school. I am currently attending a public high school and going well, however I do not see a point in it. It seems like nobody wants to be there, and it feels like every assignment is just busy work that holds no relevance to real life. I am excited to go to college, but dread wasting my time in high school. Does anybody else feel the same way as I do?

I’m not going into my normal rant, but it isn’t a waste of time. It may seem like it is now, but when you get older you will realize it wasn’t.

High school is preparing you for college and university…the assignments are intellectual tools and exercises…your assignments in college will be just as irrelevant….but it is part of the learning process…

I’m in full agreement with you. Unless your planning to be like a brain surgeon or something; ***** highschool.

High school is mostly preparation for College, however today as a young adult I often in my jobs use skills I learned in high school.

Believe me it may seem like a waste of time now, but you’ll be glad you finished when your older. Remember when your a kid you really don’t know everything, though it may seem like it.

Just you, this is a very important part of your education and you must cope with it wether you like it or not. Keep doing well and please stop concerning about how others might feel about it.

this is my theory, pre-k prepares you for kindergarten, kindergarten for elm school, elm for jr high, jr high for high school, high scool for college, college for life, and finally life for death…from the beginning we are being prepared to die, i agree its teachin you what death is like. high school sux, not sure if that helps. answer me this, why do i care if train Aand B crash at point D? i go to private school even worse

Elementary school is pointless, but high school doesn’t have to be.
If you feel like you aren’t doing anything useful, take more advanced courses. This has a few benefits.
First, generally the teachers that teach advanced courses are less likely to give “busy work”. They’ve got a lot of material to cover, and they plan on doing it all. Also, (and I don’t mean to rag on base-level class teachers, I’ve had some good ones) but advanced course teachers tend to be more knowledgeable about their subject and overall seem to care more about who and what they’re teaching.
Secondly, advanced classes aren’t for everyone, and this is a great way to get away from those kids that don’t care about learning and don’t want to be in school. I’ve pretty much managed to avoid all of those kids by taking AP courses. Plus, when all the kids that don’t care are gone, you put yourself in an environment that’s completely geared towards learning. The kids care, the teacher cares, and that makes the class a lot more beneficial and run a lot more smoothly.

Listen, im 23 years old graduated in 2003. It ***** to get on facebook and find out that all the people that i knew on a first name basis are now alumni and have lifetime connections through fraternities. i didnt take high school seriously enough to make it to college. I played football, wrestled, state champion in track and field, homecomming runner up- all the things that make high school fun…i did it. But none of that means SQUAT in the real world. Even though it seems like BS,irrelevant or busywork-DO IT. Just do it. Its serious dude, you do not want to look back and wish you had done things differently. I go through it everyday, its what the world now calls an early mid-life crisis. You are still in a position to make GREAT things happen in your life-take advantage.
