Electric Stove Element on High All the time?

I was just wondering how come my Chef Electric Stove Element goes on high All the time? Even if i switch the element on low or medium its always on High. What is the cause of problem? Is there anyway i can fix this?

    The rheostat that controls it is probably bad, ( Its the part the knob is connected to)
