Gas prices are at an all time high?

all-time high
roadkill ☠ asked:

Gas prices are at an all time high.
Do you try to ban Venezuelan gasoline? AND if you do, would you stop your ban if Hugo Chavez would sell his gas 25 cents less a gallon?

The reasonable, free-market capitalist would say of course- by resources at the most affordable price.

But we like to play politics in this country, and our multinational oil companies have a big part in our political arena. Since they got shut out of the profits in Venezuela, they say no to all their oil, even if it could help the American consumer. Despite the fact that oil companies are making hand over fist right now off the backs of the American people, Hugo Chavez cut into more of their potential profits by nationalizing the oil resources available. And Exxon and Shell and BP make us suffer for it.

If Hugo were to provide gas at a reduced price they would simply buy all of it at that price and then resell it for a higher price so what would he accomplish! Now if he offered it for pennies less his PR ratings would be worth the cost! Maybe the US should stop sending CIA agents into Venezuela and interfering with internal affairs in that nation! I am certain they intend to disrupt the unions in that nation! It’s a favorite CIA tactic!

let’s not forget CITGO , remember who owns it? do you have a CITGO near you? they are going through a name change at some locations due to a boycott so don’t be decieved by the new name whatever they settle on.

    All time high?

    Not yet.

Just give Bush a little more time. This is the problem with voting in people who profit from high gas prices. Do you think it is a coincidence that Republican policies benefit Republican politicians?

    I saw this bumpersticker at

    Oil – 1999 $19 per barrel, 2005 – $70 per barrel.
Looks a bit out of date. Now it is 2007-$110 per barrel.

Oil has jumped from $19 per barrel to $110 per barrel. And the Democrats claim that all of Bush policies are failures. An increase of 480 percent. Looks like the “village idiot” is laughing all the way to the bank.

Sorry, you guys in the US don’t know how CHEAP your gas is. You want to try being a motorist in the UK! The last time I filled up I paid £1.07 per litre. That’s £4.86 a gallon. The exchange rate is just over 2:1, so it works out to $9.89 a gallon. Now tell me that your gas is expensive – some of us are paying THREE TIMES more!
