EpicRacer asked:
can i keep my high beams on all the time (at night) and point the lights down so i dont blind oncoming traffic? or will that burn out the bulbs faster?
what about Xenon HID bulbs? i just ordered a set and it came with a 9007 model for my car and an H10 model. i installed the 9007 and they dont seem much brighter than my stock lights and they don have a high beam.

You can leave em on high all the time if you want to anoy every other porr barstard on the road and dont mind getting pulled over by the cops.
Keeping your high beams on blinds any oncoming traffic and reflects in the mirrors of the guy in front of you no matter where they’re pointed and basically it makes you a douchebag. So just don’t. If you’re that terrified of the dark don’t drive at night.
yes! try to reduce using high beam it might burn!
It’s an annoyance to oncoming traffic and is actually something you can get pulled over for.
Yes because no matter were you point them it will annoy other motorists. Also if you have your high beams on for no reason and pass a cop they will stop you, it happened to me already.
sure is you blind the on coming driver
The high beams are not just high but the spread wider (up and down). Even if you point them down it will still blind other drivers – especially the HID bulbs.
I drive with high beams all the time DURING THE DAY (halogens). And yes it definitely burns out the bulb faster.
You won’t know what it feels like to be on the other side of that high beam until you meet your double driving right behind you.
Good Luck (and be a good citizen).
You will be ticketed!
yes you tend to blind the person going the oposite way, and could cause an accident undr the right conditions
Years ago I knew a few guys from the southern hilly states that had their lights wired so one side had the high beam on at all times, when oncoming traffic would flash them, they would just flick the beam switch and they would still have one bright on and one dim. They claim it was to be safer on the narrow, hilly roads at night.
As far as the new lights not being much brighter than the old, is there maybe a transformer change in order to power the new lights?
It is against the law and depending on where you are from can be fined with a traffic ticket. The law in British Columbia, Canada states that lights must be dimmed 500 metres from oppising traffic. There are many who “forget” about it and it is truly frustrating. This same rule also applies to “fog lamps” when the weather does not require them.
It could be dangerous in that you might blind an oncoming driver who will accidentally crash into you.
Even with them aimed low they will be considerably brighter than the low beams.
If it seems your lights are not very bright, check the lenses of the headlights to be certain they are clean. Some lenses get a foggy appearance after awhile and need to be polished. Buy a kit at an auto parts store. If they are clean and clear, you might look into the fog lamps that throw a low, flat beam onto the road. They work very well and do not blind other drivers. I have used them on my cars.
I use the high beam during the daytime and switch to low beam after dark when I am in traffic. That helps to extend the life of the bulb because at least with me, the low beam USED to be the first to burn out.
