No that is not true. Nothing happens if you take your meds like they are ordered. Her best bet is to try to eat a low cholesterol diet and take fish oil capsules to help lower her cholesterol along with the prescription meds.

if you are concerned about your mother’s medication and health issues, possibly try going with her to her next doctor’s appt and asking these questions to her health care provider. he is the one who can truly tell what she is at risk for…

Blood pressure and cholesterol meds will not CAUSE diabetes, if anything it would be diabetes causing them. Cholesterol meds can however interfere with your liver so that should be checked at least yearly.

hiya, what a worry. ok relax a bit. there are problems with any drug long term. a combination is an extra complication. there are definitely natural products that work as well if not better for cholesterol lowering. from what i have found out statins are a bigger risk for heart and other problems , than the ldl count. blood pressure also can be a non drug treatable issue.
diabetes risk increases as ldl rises normally also.
all of it is health and food/exersize related for causes. has some good info , on anti diabetic diet etc. also type in the names of mums meds. search engine…and add adverse events/ for each one..see what you find. is a genuine site for medical info also. what? was wrong first? ie blood pressure, or cholesterol? maybe the drug for one caused the other..it happens! too often.
good you care and ask! being informed, and questioning is a good thing. ! hug your mum..it lowers blood pressure, and provides good health for you both!

There is a new school of thought that agrees with what you are saying. The book, “The Power of Protein” may help you. Also another good book is the “Atkins Diet”

Many people never bother to read the scentific aspects of the Atkins diet, but it was ground breaking information in the 70′s. The medical community seems to be coming around to his way of thinking after 30+ years.

“The Power of Protein” expands and supports Atkins’s research.

My take on this is, if you don’t address the high blood pressure and the high cholesterol, then the odds of having a coronary are greater than developing diabetes.

In regards to diabetes, I believe heredity and weight contribute greatly to Type 2 diabetes – with weight being the bigger factor.

I would not stop the blood pressure or the cholesterol meds for fear of developing diabetes. The bp and cho are real while the diabetes is non-existent.

The general recommendation is maintain a healthy weight and exercise.

PS… reading some of the post. I do not recommends using herbal or “natural” remedies in lieu of pharmaceuticals. The benefits of prescription drugs have been tested and are known. The herbal and natural remedies have not been tested and the benefits (if any) have not been quantified. I personally believe the natural remedies are all witch doctor potions and marketing ploys.
